In Ermine white with a Sherwood Green flash.
This excellent example of the wonderful Lotus Cortina Mk1 was purchased by Dick Hultberg of Delaware, USA in July 1966, directly from Colin Chapman. It passed to Tom Carter, also in Millsboro, Delware in 1970 who kept it until May 2012. Tom was the Founder and President of the the Lotus Car club of America.
It is left hand drive as it left the factory.
The car was purchased by a well known racer to use at European circuits but, on seeing how solid the car was and how excellent the original interior was, he decided to treat it to a bare metal repaint to cure some microblistering and to attend to some minor repairs were required on the lower front wings. This work was photographed and invoiced which is included in the history file.
An Elan engine had found its way in to the car and so a correct unit, fully rebuilt by G. A. Classic Engines, was fitted which has been lightened and balanced and fitted with Piper cams. It is converted for unleaded fuel. There is a spec sheet for this build and the engine is smooth and powerful.
Inside the Cortina retains its lovely original 'Airflow' interior which shows little or no wear.
The history file includes photos of the Lotus whilst in the U. S, pictures of the bodywork refurbishment, invoices covering the engine build, bodywork and maintenance and some period literature. There is also photo of Colin Chapman and a member of the Carter family at the 1978 US GP.
There have been a couple of owners during the car's time in the UK, although it has seen little use, and has recently been re-commissioned.
An excellent Lotus Cortina Mk1.
