Description
This original right-hand drive MG A 1600 roadster was purchased in 2013 by a long time MG club enthusiast for its remarkable rust-free body and high originality, with the vision of a light and sympathetic overhaul to achieve an excellent car. This June 1960 build roadster was built for the British Market but intriguingly shipped out to the USA before later returning. The 1588cc engine is believed to be original and numbers are correct.
A more desirable late Series 1 1600 model this car features front disc brakes as well as a good boost in performance over the 1500 engine cars. This example was in 2012 fitted with a 5 Speed gearbox (Sierra type 9) by the MG owners club workshop at a cost of £3035. Later in c. 2015 the car was fitted with new springs, Koni telescopic dampers with some replaced rubber seals. In 2013/ 15 an additional Kenlowe fan was added, the water pump was replaced the carburettors were serviced and the engine was repainted. In 2023 we fitted a new starter motor. This A is unleaded converted and has other practical additions such as a battery isolator and supplied trickle charger.
Externally the car wears well with recent attention to the brightwork and the Old English White paint nicely mellowed since the c. 1990 first restoration. Since this time the car has covered 15, 000 miles and appears to have been cared for. There are some small marks on the body but the car has been well looked after. The chrome wires remain very good.
Inside the car has been similarly well maintained with a light facelift in 2015 with new seat pads, carpet and replacement of some of the interior controls and brightwork. The gauges are believed original and were refurbished in 2015.
