Description
The MGA replaced the MG TF and was launched at the 1955 Frankfurt Motor show with its new radically streamlined body. Concerned how the new car would be excepted MG entered two prototype cars in that years Le-Mans 24-hour race. The two cars finished in 5thand 6th in class, cementing its success as a race and road car. During its production run a total of 101, 081 cars were sold with a mere 5869 being produced for the home market.
The MGA 1800 Roadster ‘Le Mans Special’ offered here at Autostorico was first registered in 1957 in the UK as an original right-hand drive car. Finished in Silver Grey with Red leather interior and Black carpets.
Purchased by its current owner in January 2020 who enjoyed using the car sparingly. In 2024 he entrusted FW Motors a classic car specialist to build a ‘Le Mans Special’ Tribute. Works included a bare metal respray before attention turned to the mechanicals. An MGB 1800cc engine built to fast road specification with Arrow con rods, forged pistons, big value gas flowed head, lightened fly wheel and Weber 45 DCOE carburettor mated to a five speed gearbox with limited slip differential. Other notable works included overhauling the braking system including front disc brakes, suspension, re-wire and interior re-trim.
Specification highlights include Louvered bonnet, tonneau cover, Plexi glass windscreen, rear boot fin, alloy radiator with electric colling fan.
Supplied with a history file including a current V5 registration document, previous MOT’s, heritage certificate, restoration photos, numerous invoices and other related history.
