History:
The Panther Car Company was founded by Robert Jankel in 1972 and the first model produced at the Byfleet, Surrey factory was the J72. This was based on the 1930's Jaguar SS100 and was built to a very high quality standard, using Jaguar running gear and hand built aluminium bodywork - Panther won the 1976 coach building award, ahead of even Rolls Royce. A choice of Jaguar engines was available, 3. 8 or 4. 2 6 cylinder or the Jaguar v12.
A very rare sight on the roads today, with only 368 built, the majority being lhd for export. They were extremely expensive when new. In 1972 the retail price was £4, 380 - 3 times the price of a Morgan Plus 8 at the time!
