1965 Standard 7-cwt pick-up in first class condition. This is a rare find.
Registered on June 1st 1965, it is believed to be the last Standard manufactured.
Despite Standard passenger cars ceasing manufacture in 1961, soon after the company’s takeover by Leyland Motors, the Pennant based commercial enjoyed a new lease of life and was available in two forms, namely, a van and a pick-up as you can see here. They were advertised as the First light vehicles with Leyland ‘Seal of Quality’.
Mechanically the Standard commercials were updated with the fitment of the 11447cc engine from the Triumph Herald which enhanced the performance significantly.
The specification included 4-speed gearbox with synchromesh on the upper three gears, hydraulic brakes and a hydraulic clutch.
Prior to its purchase by the last owner, the pick-up had spent many years on display in a car showroom which accounts for its remarkable state of preservation.
The pick-up starts readily and drives well. It keeps up with modern traffic on A and B roads.
Ideal vehicle for promoting a small business.
