This car is to be auctioned at The Autumn Stafford Sale - The Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show
Brothers Don and Derek Rickman were already established moto-cross stars when they built the first Mtisse in 1959. Their company would grow to become one of the biggest and best-known independent motorcycle frame-makers. The machine offered here is an example of the Road Racer (RR), which was one of several new models launched at the Earls Court Motorcycle Show in 1966. This is a very nicely presented example with some interesting early history. The Rickman Register lists frame number 'R393' as manufactured in January 1969 to Triumph T120 RR specification for a customer named 'Monahan'. The machine was purchased in its current modified specification from a Mr Ian Savage, who advised that it had been raced for 20-plus years by the same family. The machine boasts an engine built to racing specification with Nourish 360-degree crank, Lightning racing con-rods, Morgo barrels and pistons (750 standard bore), T140 cylinder head, new Amal Concentric Mk1 carburettors; Boyer electronic ignition; and a Newby belt drive and clutch. Other notable features include a hand-made exhaust system and an electronic speedometer/ rev counter. The machine would benefit from detailing (the engine turns over). Accompanying documentation includes an old V5C, MoT to 2018, VMCC dating document, and CRMC and Historic Racing certificates, Together with a selection of spares to include an aluminium 'short circuit' fuel tank, seat units (x3), front mudguard, and two fairings. Key present.
