The mid-range Voisin C14 succeeded the C11 in 1929, keeping its 2327cc sleeve-valve six-cylinder 13CV engine. This chassis, of which 1795 were built, could be fitted with several 'works' bodies, including the five-seat 'Chartreuse' saloon like the example presented here.
Built at the turn of the year 1929/ 30, this C14 was registered in May 1934 in the Haut-Rhin department as 4296-PB2, as is confirmed by an old registration certificate issued in April 1937 to a captain from Mulhouse. Only in 1978 did its registration number change, when the car moved to the Doubs, but it kept its attractive period number plate at the rear, which it still has today. The subject of an older restoration which has been well preserved, this 'Chartreuse' has the characteristic styling of Gabriel Voisin's cars with a slightly lowered roofline and an upright windscreen topped by a visor. Fitted with large luggage trunks on the front wings, it features all the accessories which make the cars of this marque so charming, starting with the famous 'Cocotte' mascot on top of the handsome radiator grille. The polished aluminium wheel discs, which help improve the car's aerodynamics, reflect both technical and aesthetic concerns. The interior is trimmed with a highly original Art Deco fabric, in accordance with its original appearance. The well-stocked dashboard, with round gauges, accentuates the car's luxurious look, while under the bonnet the six-cylinder engine is of a sleeve-valve type originally licensed from Knight, and has the characteristic finned exhaust manifolds. This work of art on wheels is in running order, but has been driven very little in recent years; it comes with its original service book and spare parts catalogue.
A rare model, the archetype of the cars produced by Gabriel Voisin, it reflects the originality of its manufacturer and stands out from other models of the 1930s.
