1970 BSH Benais Saint Hilaire For Sale

Description

This is the original "press car", which appeared in Autojournal in 1970. Several exchanges and meetings with Max Saint Hilaire (its creator) were invaluable, not least for re-making the headlamp bubbles and authenticating the model. Copies of its original registration papers will be supplied with the car, including the W garage (5029 W 75) with which it was driven before being registered. On 06. 02. 1970, it was registered under number "473 AV 92" in the name of SA Issy Automobiles and thus became the "press car" that can be seen in photos in newspapers (Auto-journal of May 1970...) and period tests (André Costa, Thierry Sabine...). At the time, it was fitted with a R8 Gordini engine. It was later replaced by an R5 Alpine engine, in its original configuration with a vertical Weber carburettor. This BSH was later stored in a garage, where it was spotted around 1997 by its new owner, who managed to buy the car with the help of a solicitor who then looked after the property in which it was located. It retained its original registration, which was changed from red to yellow, and in 2002 the car was registered in the name of the new owner's girlfriend. He sold the car to us in 2014. Little used in recent years, we entrusted it to a friend, close to Max Saint Hilaire, who used to work for him assembling cars. They both live in the north of La Manche and will be taking care of getting the car back on the road. The suspension and steering rack were changed, and the windows and headlight bubbles that had disappeared were made. The rear bonnet was repainted because the rear lights had been doubled, so 2 were removed and the upper part repainted in satin black. The centres of the GOTTI rims were also painted blue, to match the dashboard, which was also repainted in the same shade. The car was back on the road in April 2015 and the registration was converted to the new format. Not all BSHs were registered. Around 50 were produced, of which around half are still in circulation. Drivers such as Briavoine and Segolen entered them and raced them in the Tour de France Auto and the Tour de Corse, making the model eligible for these historic events. The roadworthiness test (blank) is less than 6 months old, and the registration is as it was in 1970 (Make: Benais / Type: Original), and now as a collector's vehicle.
