HERE at Martin Howey Classics (Est. 26 years) we are offering for sale a 1963 Austin Healey Sprite Mark II in quite superb condition all round.
Modified in as much as it has been uprated from a 1098cc unit to the 1275 featuring a long centre branch exhaust as well as a water cooled manifold by Titan Motorsports. This stunning old girl is also running on a single 1. 5 inch carb an drives like the wind. Body-wise, she has had the rear arches widened and this has been done with the greatest of skill. They simply blend straight in with the rear panels so well that you would have thought they has been there from new.
Structurally, she is excellent. In great order underneath as well as in the engine bay and boot. She really is as pretty as a picture with the bright red - and obviously recently totally renewed - interior acting as a perfect contrast to the paint to the off-white paintwork.
I particularly like the way the dashboard has been kept original. Mark II Sprites carried on the dash arrangement from the earlier Frogeye and it suits the car superbly, especially with the detachable hood and side screens removed. They too are in great order with the hood being best described as "like new."
Showing top class oil pressure, she is a joy to drive with magnificent acceleration and tight handling. I'd suggest that it would be difficult to find a better one for the money.
Until last year, she was showing just two former keepers and now it is three. The original registration of 6883 WF is transferable.
This description is based on my opinion of the vehicle, the paperwork that comes with the car and anything I have been told about it. The vehicle is 61-years-old and this cannot be taken as a definitive statement for obvious reasons. As with most classic cars, there may be faults and quirks whilst, almost inevitably, some degree of tinkering and care will always be called for. Such are the joys of owning an antique vehicle and they must be taken within their own context and not compared to modern day cars. They are sold as old, mainly out-dated machines and come without any comeback whatsoever. They are my terms and conditions.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. This car, for example, is 61-years-old. It's not two, five or even ten-years-old as your own everyday car may be. It has been in service for more than half a century and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. However, faults on these old girls are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply.
