JAG 952 is a Home Market UK RHD matching numbers example that was built on the 19th May 1970, distributed out of Henlys, London and registered in Coventry for its first owner, P G K Baldwin through Personal Export Delivery. The cars first owner kept the E-Type for four years and from 1974 we have two very comprehensive folders of history that includes invoices for servicing and maintenance throughout the 1970’s and a copy of an early original ‘buff’ logbook. There is also the 1974 bill of sale for the car from Gold Seal Sports Cars in London who supplied it to the second owner for £1570. The E-Type changes hands again in 1979, this owner keeping the car for 20 years and when it was sold in 1999 it had stage one of two programs of major work.
The cars new owner in 1999 put the fitting JAG 952 number plate on the car and commissioned a restoration that was completed by 2001 costing over £50, 000. The E-Type was stripped to the bare shell and the body rebuilt with many brand new panels to include doors, outer sills, rear lower quarter panels and wheel arch panels. The bare shell was then prepared and painted inside/ out, various mechanical components were powder coated and the engine rebuilt. The car was then built up with a new interior, new bumpers, quarter glass frames, window frames and new seals, mounts, gaskets and many new mechanical components. A huge file of invoices cover all the new parts used and photos of the bodywork are also on file.
Since the rebuild the E-Type was covered in the region of 25, 000 miles, the couple who commissioned the rebuild carried out 5000 miles to 2004 and then sold the car, but fast forward to 2015, 15, 000 miles since the rebuild the cars second phase of major expenditure started. From 2015 to 2019 when coming into the hands of one of our York based customers, the E-Type had a Hampshire based owner who also carried out a huge level of expenditure. He gave the car to WinSpeed Motorsport in Guildford in 2018 who carried out an engine rebuild costing almost £9, 000. This included new Mahle piston set, new main and big end bearings, uprated timing chain, rear seal conversion and various maching work as required. A detailed invoice is on file and since the engine rebuild the E-Type has covered around 7000 miles. Further work included a new clutch kit, propshaft, axle oil seals, water pump with invoices on file between 2015 and 2019 totalling around £20, 000.
The recent owner purchased the E-Type in 2019, he travelled to Hampshire and faultlessly drove the car home to York. He had the car checked over with a local Jaguar specialist and over the last five years he has loved ownership and covered 6000 miles in the car. Invoices for regular servicing and upkeep throughout his ownership is in the huge history file, and the car has been an absoloute delight to own. His final drive from York to us in Malton was faultless as it has been right throughout ownership. With around 7000 miles since its WinSpeed engine build and good quality maintenance, the Jaguar has arrived in strong mechanical condition and is driving beautifully. The engine feels superb with excellent oil pressure, the four speed all syncromesh gearbox is lovely and smooth and the E-Type handles superbly. JAG 952 is a striking looking car, the paintwork is beautifully finished, the body exceptional from its major refurbishment and the car has a real presence. This is a superbly presented car and its been truly cherished over the past 5 years and looks attractively priced for what is a very well sorted, beautifully presented Series II FHC.
