Description
1962 Jaguar E-Type 3. 8 Fixed Head Coupe – Flat Floor, Welded Louvres, Heritage Certified.
A stunningly rare early flat floor 1962 Jaguar E-Type 3. 8 Fixed Head Coupe, finished in Old English White with red hide interior and carpets. This is a genuine matching-numbers example (Chassis no. 885461 / Engine no. R3556-9) that was originally dispatched to Jaguar Cars, New York, in January 1962.
This highly sought-after early specification car features the flat floor, welded bonnet louvres, aluminium centre console, and retains all the hallmarks that make the first-generation E-Types so special.
The car underwent a total nut-and-bolt restoration by respected UK Jaguar specialists Butlins & Sons Classic Cars in 2006, when it was also converted to right-hand drive and fitted with an upgraded all-synchromesh gearbox. The original Gearbox is still in storage and will be included in the sale. Additional enhancements include an extra cooling fan and full Waxoyl anti-corrosion treatment.
In 2015, the engine was entrusted to AMK Engineering for a fast road rebuild costing over £8, 000. The work included:
Complete strip-down to bare block
Overhauled cylinder head
Newman camshafts
ARP big end bolts and studs
Comprehensive tuning and setup for performance and reliability
Since completion, the car has covered less than 1500 miles, being dry stored at professional facilities and maintained as part of a small private collection. The condition remains superb — the underside is as immaculate as the top, and the driving experience is second to none.
Included in the history file are:
Jaguar Heritage Certificate
Extensive service and restoration invoices
Photographic record of restoration
Owner’s handbook and original tools
This exceptional early flat floor Jaguar E-Type 3. 8 Fixed Head Coupe represents the very best of the marque — a car that combines originality, craftsmanship, and usability in one beautifully presented package.
It starts on the button, runs smoothly, and drives superbly, benefiting from its fast-road engine rebuild and careful mechanical upkeep. Having been dry stored and meticulously maintained, it is both a pleasure to drive and a sound investment opportunity for any discerning collector.
Recently treated to a full professional detail, the car is ready to be enjoyed immediately or displayed proudly as part of a serious collection. With its rare specification and heritage documentation, this E-Type offers an outstanding opportunity to own a true piece of British motoring history — one that’s as reliable to use as it is rewarding to own.
