TRIUMPH 750 TRIDENT T150 - 1969 - When Triumph/ BSA management asked its engineers, Doug Hele and Bert Hopwood, to increase the capacity of their twin-cylinder Triumph motorcycles to 750 in 1961, the engineers, fearing unbearable vibrations, suggested making a three-cylinder motorcycle instead. After a long wait for the green light from BSA management, it was not marketed until 1969 - The Trident T150 was claimed to have 60hp and to be one of the fastest motorbikes of its time. However, with its kick start, four-speed gearbox and front drum brake, it suffered in comparison with the Honda CB 750, which offered an electric starter, five-speed gearbox and disc brake. As a result, the commercial success of the Honda, as well as its very attractive price, was much greater than that of the Trident. - Two colours were offered, with the European colour, Aquamarine 1969/ 1970 and Olympic Flame/ Silver Sheen. This model represented the top of the range for the brand, and was offered for sale at 11, 420F in France, i. e. almost 40% more than a Bonneville. - This did not prevent the Trident from enjoying remarkable success in production racing, the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man. It even won the 1970 Bol d'Or. The two victorious Trident's, Tait-Jolt on the N° 2 and Dikie-Smart on the N° 1. - This superb Triumph TR6 Trophy, which comes out of the "Private Collection" of this collector, will make the joy of the next, Motard.........., to find itself in the 70's!
