Origins of the Innocenti Mini The Innocenti Mini Cooper was born of an agreement between Italian carmaker Innocenti and the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in the early 1960s. Innocenti began producing its own version of the Mini under licence in 1965, and went on to develop separate models, often more luxurious and with specific engines. The Mini Cooper 1300 marked an important stage in this evolution. Produced from February 1973 in larger numbers (around 28, 000) than the 'non-export' version (around 10, 000 produced from February 1972), the 1300 Cooper Export was distinguished by a more luxurious and better-equipped interior (specific seats, better quality carpets, rear defrosting, sometimes wooden steering wheel), minor cosmetic details ('Export' badge), and potentially slight technical differences (engine similar to the British Mini Cooper S, Hydrolastic suspension possible).
