A wonderful 'barn find' and an early example
Retaining many original features plus the sidecar
Last run several years ago however turns over well
Old style RF60 on file
The BSA A7 was the first of the BSA twin-cylinder motorcycles. The outbreak of World War II delayed the launch and several prototypes were built during the war years, with the model finally launched in September 1946, when hostilities had ended. The very first A7 off the production line was flown to Paris for the first motorcycle show after the war. There was huge post-war demand for affordable transport and the attractive simplicity of the A7 twin was further supplemented by the slogan 'It's time YOU had a BSA!'.
On offer is a very original barn find 1947 BSA A7 and a rare Bracknell sidecar. The A7 retains many original features, including its telescopic centre stand, which was often dispensed with in-period. It's a very complete BSA and wouldn't take too much effort to get it back on the road again. It was last run several years ago, and we are advised, with good compression and selectable gears. Reattachment of the sidecar should be possible once the frame has been repaired - the frame will need some fabrication and is missing its springs. The sidecar body is intact apart from requiring a new screen. The A7 is currently owned by the famous actor Chris Barrie, who appeared as 'Rimmer' in the BBC TV hit series Red Dwarf, 'Gordon Brittas' in The Brittas Empire and on a number of factual programmes that included Britain's Greatest Machines with Chris Barrie. An old style RF60 is on file, however, a DVLA record of the registration number could not be found and would therefore need to be applied for.
