They're rare, but we've found another one: a 1st series Daf 55 coupé in beautiful original condition. Delivered new in France by Garage Notre Dame and after many sunny years, the Daf ended up with a collector in Germany. Equipped with numerous TUV reports and of course very well maintained. The last owner regularly travelled back and forth between his home in Delft and Munich, so technically the 55 is in perfect condition. The 55 was professionally repainted in the past in the colour 'Mittelblau' and the quality of the paintwork is excellent. Yes, a Mercedes colour because the French owner liked it. It resembles the "Marina" colour of the 55 and looks great on the coupé. The paint is nice and smooth, but it does show some signs of wear. After all, it was made a long time ago, so it's a great compliment when you look at the condition of the paint. A Dinitrol treatment was also carried out at the time. Recently, the rear lights have been replaced, so they're virtually as good as new. The original identification plate from Garage Notre Dame de Lens is still affixed to the rear! The interior is magnificent and a real time capsule. The original steering wheel has wood inlays, and the seats sit very well and still have their original upholstery. The driver's seat has bunk trim. The dashboard is complete and all the gauges work as they should. The indestructible 1108cc Cléon-Fonte engine enjoys an excellent reputation. Renault has been building this engine in various models for years and for Daf it was a logical choice. The compact and powerful water-cooled 4-cylinder engine boosted sales and the brand was finally taken seriously. The Daf manifold was fitted with electronic ignition, a new radiator and new hoses. The variomatic belts have also been replaced and the secondary discs overhauled. The 55 starts immediately, both hot and cold, and drives very well.
