Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 15th January on Thursday the 15th of January, Online. Background
Land Rover’s venerable Defender series debuted in 1983, taking over from the tried-and-trusted ‘Series’ Landies, so beloved by generations of farmers, soldiers, explorers and adventurers. A design icon that’s as globally recognised as a London black cab or double-decker bus, the Defender took the all-wheel drive, go-anywhere, do-anything Land Rover into a new era, introducing improved road manners thanks to its all-coil spring suspension and permanent all-wheel drive with its lockable centre differential – both adopted from the Range Rover.
A sales success from day one, the Defender’s 33-year life-span and excellent survival rate means that they’re likely to remain a regular feature on most roads – and off them – for many years to come.
The Car
This Defender started life in 2006 as a standard 90" wheelbase County XS, with Land Rover’s venerable 2. 5-litre five-cylinder engine. How it left the production line in Solihull is not how it currently presents, however...
This Defender 90 looks subtly, yet on closer inspection dramatically, different, thanks to extensive professional modifications including dark tinted glass sides front ball bar with spotlights. With a tasteful nod to its heritage with the Union Jack decals, along with matching alloy wheels with chunky offroad tyres. This out-of-the-ordinary Landie also benefits from air conditioning, autobiography sports seats that are heated, side steps and a tow bar.
The vendor has put minimal miles on the car over the last few years but has maintained it regardless of cost. Crucially, the bulkhead is rust-free, as is the rear crossmember. The Defender has covered 92, 500 miles from new. Supplied with one key.
There’s simply nothing quite like a Land Rover Defender, and this gorgeous example isn’t quite like any other. Stand out from the crowd without standing out.
