As at home in the city as in the mountains, the most civilized of all Hummers!
In 1979, the U. S. Army issued a call for tenders for a new all-terrain vehicle, just as it had done for the Jeep at the start of the Second World War. Code name? High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or HMMWV (phonetically humvee).
** General's Metal Fabricating Division won the contract, and construction of the most famous and disproportionately large armored military 4x4 began in 1984.
Production was initially exclusively military, and it is said that it was Arnold Schwarzenegger who asked ** General management to develop a civilian version. It was Schwarzenegger who took delivery of the first two Hummers in 1992.
At the Detroit Auto Show in 2000, General Motors Corp, which had bought back the rights from ** General, presented the Hummer H2 SUV Concept, which went into production in early 2002. An authentic baroudeur that goes where others don't ("A third of the earth is waiting for you", boasts the brochure), this 4x4 XXL, powered by a 316hp, 6-liter Vortec V8 (then 325hp from 2004), pampers its occupants with electric leather seats, a Bose sound system and 3-zone air conditioning. A new Hummer H2 cost over €80, 000 in France, excluding options.
The Hummer H2 presented here, fitted with the 6-liter 325 hp engine, has benefited from regular maintenance (invoices available) and has now clocked up just over 111, 000 km. In the hands of its current owner for just over 10 years, it's in fine cosmetic condition and comes fully equipped and functional, making it ready to tackle sidewalks and mud alike!
