Description
First introduced in 1965 as a fixed-roof evolution of the much-loved roadster, the MG B GT quickly established itself as one of Britain’s most practical and enduring sporting classics. Styled by Pininfarina and built with everyday usability in mind, the GT combined performance, comfort, and refinement in a way few of its contemporaries could match. Today, it remains a highly regarded icon of 1970s motoring, admired for both its distinctive design and engaging driving experience.
Offered here is a charming example first registered on the 1st of January 1972, with a timeless red exterior with a complementary black interior finished with elegant red piping. Equipped with an automatic gearbox, this particular car offers a more relaxed and accessible driving experience, making it especially suited to touring and leisurely enjoyment. The vehicle has had six former keepers, each contributing to a remarkably well-documented and traceable history and two owners being the same person but a different times.
Accompanying the car is a comprehensive, handwritten record detailing its entire life, including ownership history dating back decades. Notably, the car was sold to Mr and Mrs Sayers in 1978, followed by ownership under Mr Duxbury in 1988, continuing with this detailed chronology continuing right through to the present day. This record also carefully logs mileage progression, servicing, and maintenance, providing an unusually rich narrative of the car’s journey through time.
Further supporting its authenticity, the car is supplied with a heritage certificate, confirming its originality and factory specification. An extensive file of invoices accompanies the vehicle, documenting restoration and maintenance work dating back to 1984, alongside MOT records, historic tax discs, and additional handwritten notes from previous custodians outlining their stewardship and care.
In the current year alone, the car has benefitted from a significant mechanical overhaul, with over £500 invested alongside many hours of dedicated work. This includes the replacement of the fuel pump, condenser, contact points, and rotor arm, ensuring the car remains in sound mechanical condition. Particularly noteworthy is the involvement of the previous owner, who has owned the car twice—first between July 2007 and July 2011, and again from 2025. During his earlier period of ownership, he undertook what is described as the most comprehensive phase of the car’s life, meticulously documenting a step-by-step recommissioning process with expenditure exceeding £2, 500. His recent reacquisition and continued attention have ensured the car presents to a highly commendable standard today.
The vehicle is currently MOT’d until August 2026 and has been carefully stored in a dry garage, preserving its condition. It stands as a wonderfully honest and well-loved example, offering not only classic MG driving charm but also an unparalleled historical record that will appeal to collectors and enthusiasts alike.
