Description

1980 Mini 1000

Registration: EPX 941H

This fun little car was off the road just a year ago, and needed a lot of work to get it back and on the UK roads.

When I purchased the car it had no interior or engine, as it had been stripped out for fast road use, and the original engine was bored out and was running on its limit! Eventually it gave up and the engine was removed.

I purchased a very low mileage 1300 MG Metro engine, which was a common and fairly straightforward upgrade for the mini. I stripped the engine completely and was pleasantly surprised to see how good the conditions all of the components were. The engine had new seals and gaskets fitted, a new timing chain and was painted in BMC green. The cylinder head was replaced with a very good unleaded converted head, new valve guides and had the valve seats ground. I had the cylinder head ported to provide better air flow through it, and had it matched with a single HIF 44 3/ 4 inch SU carburettor.

The engine bay was stripped, and re-painted. With the fitting of a brand new brake and clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, and brand new clutch, sports ignition coil, reconditioned starter motor, new alternator, new wiring loom, new performance distributor, spark plugs, new ht leads.

So now the car goes like stink!

It also stops like a modern car. I have fitted it with 4 pot lightweight aluminium racing calipers, and new flexible brake hoses. The car has new brake pads and new tires. It has also had a new handbrake cable fitted.

The car has had all of the welding work done on it and the entire underside of the car has been waxoyled, so you wont have to worry about any dreaded rust with this car.

This lovely little mini has been treated to a brand new drivers seat, the same as that fitted to the origional Porsche 911 RSR's. The corduroy and vinyl on the seat complement the passenger seat and its interior very well . The passenger seat is a Paddy Hopkirk bucket seat in very good condition. It also has black vinyl rear seats from a MK II Cooper. The car is fitted with racing harnesses, but will come with its original seat belts as well.

There is also a set of 5 Minilite alloy wheels which are available under separate negotiation.

There is a substantial folder that comes with the car, with endless receipts and documentation and photos throughout the restoration.

This really is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a truly honest little British icon, one that also is no slouch.

It turns heads from miles away, mostly due to its Janspeed performance twin exit exhaust, which provides a great sound to accompany a great looking, fast road mini. That wouldn't require a lot of work for it to be competitive as a Hill-climb car, but is also very at home on Britain's country lanes.

This is an opportunity not to be missed. Especially with the value in these classic minis soaring, a great bit of fun, but also a solid investment that definitely beats leaving your money in the bank waiting for it to accumulate a little interest.
