Very rare 2003 Aprilia Tuono –R ‘Racing’ complete with its original factory supplied race kit.
This is a genuine ‘Racing’ from 2003.
(Not to be confused with the Tuono factory which preceded this bike).
This machine is No. 140 of 200 (debated) produced for homologation for the series.
It is also one of less than 20 official ‘UK’ bikes from Italy, making it extremely rare.
When purchased new, the bike was supplied with a factory ‘Race kit’ which is still present and correct.
The race kit consists of the following items:
• Race Carbon fibre top cowl fairing
• Race fully enclosed Carbon fibre belly pan
• Race Carbon seat hump
• Titanium race silencer
• Billet exhaust mounting bracket
• Race ECU chip
• Side stand bypass loom
• Reversed gear linkage kit
• Rear light delete grill
• Front sprocket
• Kit Tuono Racing Assembly Instruction manual
• Aprilia Titanium Evo race silencer and chip installation manual
Some of the parts have never been fitted to the bike and are still in their original packaging.
As a Tuono racing it also has the added benefits of:
• OZ lightweight forged wheels
• Ohlins front forks
• Ohlins rear shock
• Ohlins steering damper
• Brembo radial brakes
• Carbon fibre top cowl, side pods, mudguards, seat unit, and belly panel (road equipment).
All of which were an upgrade from the standard Tuono model.
The machine also comes with:
• Original rear footpegs
• Original Pillion seat
• Original number plate
• 3 keys
• All previous MOT’S
There are some tasteful additions to the machine carried out by previous owners. These are:
• Pazzo brake and clutch levers
• Led indicators
• Bar end mirror
• Screw type fuel filler cap.
• Carbon fibre chain guard
All of the standard parts have been retained.
Aprilia produced this bike to specifically concentrate on the Italian Naked bike championship in which the Ducati Monsters were dominant. Aprilia succeeded in their quest to win the championship, along with many other championships in and around the era.
I have owned the bike since 2012, with 3 former keepers.
The machine is fully road legal and is occasionally enjoyed when the sun is shining. The MOT expires March 2018. It has just had a full service and a new battery. Very little wear to the Pirelli Rosso tyres and brakes. There are some minor blemishes commensurate with only 8, 000 miles. It has just had a full service carried out, and a new Li-ion battery has been fitted.
Apart from the fantastic looks of this bike, the added appeal of this machine is its relative anonymity. To the uneducated, this is just a nice Tuono, swathed in carbon bodywork. The racing pedigree of this machine is virtually unknown. The fact that this machine is complete with its original factory supplied race kit with genuine low mileage, and its great condition makes it a very rare example indeed.
The bike represents an excellent investment opportunity due to its rarity, its completeness, and it current condition. It is an appreciating asset that can be both admired and enjoyed.
It would also be a great addition to a collection.
