Descrizione
The Simca 8 Sport shares its design with the rare Fiat 1100 as well as with the Cisitalia 202 and Ferrari 166. It was considered the most beautiful French production car when presented and was exhibited at MoMa in New York as an example of extraordinary automotive design in 1953.
The Simca 8 Sport was based on the ageing Simca 8, but with a more powerful engine, and clad in a very modern body designed by Pininfarina and built by Facel Metallon.
It was an expensive car at the time. Many cars were sold to the United States.
But the 8 Sport were not only used by designers and movie stars. It was also rallied and raced for the short time it was in production. It was successful in the Monte Carlo Rally in 1950 and took part at Le Mans for example.
The car for sale was originally exported to the U. S. in 1951. The gear-shift is floor mounted. The facia is not the early version. The wind screen is the early split variant. It seems to have had engine problems as it did not have its original engine when it was sold and brought back to Europe. The car was registered in the Netherlands which is where I bought it. I had a Simca engine installed and gearbox and brakes revised. The right-hand side window was replaced and the winding mechanism re-fabricated. A new battery is installed.
Chassis: No 905242
Engine (not original)
Body: No 806135
The car is registered in Belgium and I drive it occasionally for short drives.
It needs work on the body, electrics and probably on suspensions. The interior is complete and ok but should be refreshed. The tires should be changed as well.
De gustibus non disputandum, but I'd also have it painted in another colour.
My intention was originally to restore the car and take part in events such as Monte Carlo and Tour Auto where it would have been rare and welcome. I am only selling the car because I want to focus on my other classic car.
