Alfa’s follow up to the much-loved 105-series GTV. Using the same Alfa ‘Nord’ engine but with a radical new fastback shape and rear mounted transaxle transmission.
These cars, particularly UK-supplied, right-hand drive examples of the early, and much prettier, chrome-bumper GTVs, are now incredibly rare. It is documented that there are less than twenty on the UK’s roads. And thanks to their propensity for corrosion, finding an excellent low mileage example is extremely difficult, they very rarely come up for sale.
This GTV 2000 is finished in white (Bianco Capodimonte) with grey velour interior. It has covered just 33k miles from new, always garaged and, crucially, rustproofed from new. The car was purchased new by a Mr Milne from Alfa Romeo main agents, Roy Owen, in 1981. Sadly, Mr Milne died in 1983 and the car passed to his mother who kept the car garaged and largely unused until it was purchased by an Alfa Romeo enthusiast who recommissioned it. The body has been repainted once but, thanks to rustproofing when new (by Byging International Rustproofing) and dry storage, the body is extremely original with correct and sharp sill seams evident today and no welding underneath. The original Campagnolo alloy wheels were refurbished and shod with new Michelin tyres as per factory and the spare has never been used. The underside was again treated to preserve it, this time with Dinitrol products.
The interior is completely original down to the radio and in extremely well-preserved condition.
Mechanically the car has been thoroughly recommissioned with new brake and clutch hydraulics, plus fuel and ignition components where required.
This Alfa still retains all its original tools along with a complete book/ manual pack that even contains the service vouchers and ‘Alfa Aid’ credit card!
On the road the Alfa drives absolutely beautifully commensurate with the mileage. It’s crisp and tight and begs to be driven enthusiastically.
This GTV is a really rare find. A very low mileage, highly original car is exceptional condition. A must for a collector of Alfa Romeo cars.
