My 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne W code 421ci BIG block with MASSIVE spec.
THE CAR
In 2006 the previous owner began making it what it is today. I am the 4th owner, the car itself has only covered 44k miles, rock solid underneath, never been welded, the body is totally solid everywhere and still wears about 90% of its original paint! The doors and boot still shut like a new car, absolutely perfect and really satisfying.
There's one small filled dent in the front wing which I've lightly sprayed rusted colours
Inside has been re-trimmed in the correct Biscayne low-line fashion, all in fantastic condition. It has an aftermarket Alpine stereo fitted with amp, a great sound for an old car.
Blue lit Autometer gauges are fitted in the original holes in the dash and look great, the original speedo is still in place. Wipers and heaters both work perfectly. Has the huge bench-seat Hurst 4 speed shifter which looks awesome in the car with line lock button attached.
THE ENGINE
Highly desirable 409 big block “W” engine, bored to 421 cubic inches.
Ross 10. 5. 1 compression forged pistons, moly rings.
Comp Cams 280 hydraulic flat tappet cam (really choppy idle).
Edelbrock RPM aluminium heads.
Edelbrock performer intake.
Quickfuel 750 cfm double pumper with half inch spacer.
Pertronix flame thrower distributor.
Dougs ceramic coated headers with full stainless exhaust (sounds like nothing else , especially on over-run).
Jegs fuel lines and fittings.
Aluminium radiator with twin stage electric fans.
Carter fuel pump with twin Fram filters.
New starter motor.
TRANSMISSION
4 speed Muncie , rebuilt.
Brand new Centerforce clutch.
Hurst linkages with Hurst shifter.
Brand new custom made prop shaft with billet slip yolks and centre bearing
AXLE
Ford 9 inch locker with Eaton posi unit, 3. 70 ratio with 31 spline Strange engineering axles.
This car always hooks straight and true with no wheel hop, an indestructible rear end.
BRAKES
Power brakes, discs upfront with rebuilt rear drums.
Vacuum reserve canister fitted to compensate for the low vacuum choppy camshaft.
Jegs line lock fitted for big burnouts!
SUSPENSION
2 inch drop all round with polybushed rear, haven’t got around to the front, air shocks in the rear.
MISC
Stainless fuel tank.
Battery isolator switch.
New battery located in the boot.
To summarise, this is a very well built car, rock solid and is an absolute riot on the road, extremely fast!
The chrome and stainless trim are in fantastic original condition but the paint does have a patina, personally, I love it the way it is, can be enjoyed without worrying, I wouldn’t change it one bit!
I love the performance, sound, and look of this car and the fact it’s a 4 door with this engine and transmission combination makes it a real sleeper.
I have folder full of receipts for all of the work carried out by the previous owner, a fortune has been spent, I even have all of the engines internal tolerance specs here, this has been a well executed build.
