History.
The Car was initially the 'Luffield MG' Demonstrator, when they were appointed an official MG XPower Dealer. It was then sold in January 2009 but re-purchased by the original owner again in October 2014. The Chassis number 119, equates to the 14th chassis number combination out of a total of 61 RHD XPower SVs, SV-Ss and SV-Rs that were produced before MG Sport and Racing went into receivership on 12-04-05.
In addition to Luffield Cars being MG Rover dealers in Loughborough & Derby they were one of only 8 official MG Xpower dealers in the UK. Unfortunately due the events in April 2005 with the Main MG Rover company entering administration on 8th April followed by MG Sport & Racing on 11th April, the new franchise never had the opportunity of developing it?s planned model range and apart from a few Dealer demonstrators, MG Rover Management & Directors Cars and Press & Show cars the MG SV and SV-R cars were largely incomplete at the time of Administration.
During the following 12 months many of the completed cars were sold to enthusiasts and cars completed where the parts were available. During March 2006, a large Auction of other stocks of parts, Race Cars and Development cars were auctioned at the Sport & Racing premises and the site closed down. Approximately 15 RHD and 8 LHD completed SV & SV-R cars were transferred to the Auctioneers, Wyles Hardy in Hertfordshire for gradual disposal. Production figures show that of the total of 61 built, 35 have been the 4. 6 litre SV model, another 3 were SV-S, whilst the remaining 23 have been SV-Rs. From the total produced there have been 8 automatic versions, although only 1 automatic SV. It was felt that the 4. 6 litre engine possessed insufficient torque to give the desired performance.
The early production cars were all RHD, and the majority provided demonstrators for the 12 XPower MG Rover Dealerships scattered around the country. In addition to the 61 production cars mentioned above there have been another approximately 25 LHD examples built in preparation for the European markets. Although launches were planned for Italy, France, Holland and Spain the SV/ SV-R was only officially launched in Germany, where 5 examples now reside, before the well publicised events of April 2005 intervened.
Luffield Cars felt very close to this particular car as their Managing Director David Wood and Sales Director Paul McNeil, were Dealer Representative on the MG Sport & Racing Stand at the 2004 NEC Show and spent several days discussing the MG SV cars with potential customers. In addition to being a supporter of MG?s through many years racing involvements with MGF, MG TF, MG ZR and MGB Race cars, David is one of the founding members and website administrators of the MG SV-Club site. This site contains a huge amount of sales details, build records and technical information on the SV motor cars. It also includes an Owners Forum for like minded owners to discuss all aspects and occasional meetings of the Club.
