After running out of Fords to own, keeping my eye out for something a little different, and not being able to afford a classic RS, I eventually chased down this Mk2 Mondeo ST200.
The car is a year 2000, which was originally sold by Furrows of Telford in the UK (reg number W684NNT). It has the dealer sticker on the back window. The car was owned by a father son there before being brought to Ireland in 2012 and has been in my possession since early this year. It's a sensational throwback to the 90s, real life TOCA Touring Cars from the Playstation era! The cassette deck, the indicator stalk-like radio controls, the chunky four spoke steering wheel, and tiny mirrors, remind you you're in a 90s Ford.
The originality of the car is phenomenal:
- Original Ford dealer sales stamp in handbooks
- Original radio/ security window stickers
- Original Ford radio code and key code cards
- Original ST200 sales brochure
- Two keys, both work with remote central locking
- Huge amounts of service history stamps, mostly from Ford dealers
- There are around 15 services in total to justify its 49, 265 miles
- Huge history of MOTs, NCTs, service and maintenance. Receipts from Ford dealers are the most plentiful. The history folder can only be described as 'colossal', even more added since the pictures
- Matching numbers on stickers, and window engravings throughout
- Record of handbrake recall being done in 2001
- Spare wheel and tools in excellent condition, I suspect that the spare wheel is the original
- Four matching Kumho tyres
- All body panels are original
- Original tape deck and original Ford 6CD changer under the passenger’s seat
- Clean in all the usual vulnerable places like the seat belt anchoring points, under the rear seat, or spare wheel well
- It has the original Ford ST200 front floor mats in excellent condition (I have some generic mats over them to protect them), I have not yet seen a car being sold with both mats—this has both—and a spare one
- The only non-standard items are 15mm lowering springs, rear wheel spacers, and a Toyo Sport stainless steel exhaust
After being stored for many years, the car has undergone significant recommissioning over the past number of months, consisting of:
- Fuel pump replaced
- HT leads replaced
- Weather strips replaced
- Battery replaced
- All brake pads and discs replaced
- Brake backing plates replaced
- Callipers painted original silver
- Wipers replaced
- Driver’s seat leather repaired, the Recaro interior is in stunning condition (and smells like the 90s!)
- 15mm hubcentric rear wheel spacers
- Badges and emblems replaced
- New side indicators
- Trailing arm bushes replaced
- Rear anti roll bar bushes replaced
- Period correct presses steel plates and Ford “Everything We Do Is Driven By You” number plate surrounds
- Front fog lamp replaced
- Replaced the “Mondeo” door sail inserts
- New genuine roof aerial
- Dents removed (paintless)
- All four wheels refurbed and centre caps replaced
- NCTd (Irish roadworthiness test) for the first time in 4 years
- Significant paint correction carried out, the Imperial Blue paint looks stunning but no photographs will ever do justice to Ford Imperial Blue, it has to be seen
- Unsurprisingly, the arches and sills needed some attention: both rear arches and both sills were replaced by a reputable bodyshop and then completely undersealed so the new owner has complete peace of mind for any rust issues
- Working Nokia 3210, and genuine Nokia car kit which will be included
- I have the Cert of Conformity for the car, making export to the UK or any other country, very simple
Located 10 minutes from Cork Airport, 2 hours from Rosslare Port, and 3 hours from Dublin Port. I may be open to a deal on one of the following including a light project: RS1600i, RS Turbo, MK5 RS2000, Mk1 Focus RS.
This Mondeo ST200 is the most reliable, head-turning, nod-of-approval-initiating, conversation-starting Ford I’ve ever owned.
