Description
I have for sale a 1980 Grinnall TR8. I have owned for around 8 years.
Spec it is a very late Grinnall conversion, comes with a lot of history, conversion was around 1990. It has full Grinnall front suspension, trailing link rear suspension, rover sd1 vitesse 4 piston calliper front brakes, ford cosworth anti roll bars. It is classed as a body 3 conversion, with the rear arch and sill treatment. Full leather interior. It possibly has done under 1000 miles in the last 3 years. In that time band new mini lite wheels on the correct offset, I have put a new 500cfm carb and inlet manifold on it £1. 5k and around 2k in paintwork, new starter motor, as well just spent £500 on the front brakes.
Engine is a rover v8 4. 3 litre. Have some invoices back in the day suggesting rover tech parts but not sure of the detail around the engine mods. When I bought it, it was on hot wire injection but had a lot of issues with the tick over, hence the full carb conversion and she is a lot happier. I was going to put her on a rolling road to fully setup but just not got around it but I do have a full jet kit that will come with the car. The Grinnall are a recognised manufacture in the TR Register, Mark Grinnall hand built/ converted around 350 TR7 back in the late 80s before making his own car and trike conversions. Releasing his own car in 1992. The Grinnall were hand built with their own customer specifications and came in 5 body styles. The body 1 and body 2 were the least modified cars, going through to a 5 which looks more TVR Griffith than TR7 due to the extent of the body changes.
In the time I have owned mine I have not seen another body 3. These were not a cheap option and depending on what you optioned the conversion was more than a new mx5 at the time. Mine was a later conversion being around 1990 from the history I have got. These are not fibreglass conversions these are hand built steel cars.
When I bought mine I was looking at TVR 350, but the unique nature and style of the car stood out for me, though at the time I did not know of Grinnall. I must admit I will be sad to see it go, but the car is not being used like she deserves.
