Description
MG Maestro B606WBM Racecar
B606 WBM started life in 1984 like every other MG Maestro, never knowing what it’s future held. This 1600 R series car in Monza Red turned race car and spent it’s life after 1995 being competed up and down the country.
Alas, while I have a V5 in my name, the car does not have an MOT, though it is 40 years old in October 2024 and that alone presents all manner of interesting options and opportunities. I can't see how hard it would be to make it road legal again and given it would be ULEZ, Tax and MOT exempt...
Good things
• A tuned engine that I am reliably informed was good for 130bhp (And that was after the race-cams were removed...)
• The Leda suspension is fully adjustable
• It has a fully plumbed in fire suppression system for the engine and cockpit
• A full roll cage is welded in
• Second set of MG Maestro BBS style alloy wheels to accompany the cheesegraters
• Kartronix lt32 lap timer transmitter
• Armtech Speedshift "change-up" indicator
• Stripped out and very light - estimates are at or around 750kg
Bad things to be aware of
• Theres a crack in the windscreen on the "passenger" side, however new Maestro glass can be bought on eBay for less than £200 and probably way less than that from a breakers
• It does need a bit of welding in places, but it seems structurally sound
• It doesn't have a key and the doors don't lock
• Will need a new battery and probably fuel pump
• The carb needs tuning/ fettling
The car however doesn't run now as its been sat for 2 years however it ran sweetly and sounded epic the last time it was started (I have a video I can share) so you'll need a trailer. At the end of the day, it's a 40 year old racecar that needs some love from someone who has the space and time to bring it back to life for the track, to race, for fun or for the road...
