Description
Lotus Excel – 1984
this is one of the rare examples produced for less than two years on the “narrow body,” during the Eclat/ Excel production for model years 1983 and 1984. According to the VIN, it is car No. 183 out of 251 built in 1984.
Thanks to the cooperation with Toyota Japan, the 1983 and 1984 Lotus Excel models were equipped with virtually the entire drivetrain of the Celica/ Supra II – from the W58 5‑speed gearbox, rear differential, joints, half‑shafts, brakes, 14" 8‑spoke alloy wheels, all the way to details such as the exterior door handles.
When you combine Japanese reliability with the lightweight aluminium backbone/ tubular frame developed by Lotus for the Excel, the composite body, and the proven, modernised 2. 2‑litre engine from the Lotus Esprit S3 – the 912 with twin Dellorto carburettors and over 180 hp – you get a four‑seater, lightweight, two‑door sports car that is rust‑free, economical, timelessly durable, and visually fascinating even today.
It should be noted that Lotus was heavily involved in the development and production of the DeLorean DMC‑12 at that time.
Additionally, this model was delivered with a black Lotus badge – in honour of the founder and designer Colin Chapman.
The vehicle is accident‑free, regularly serviced since 2007, only occasionally used, registered in the EU (currently part of a collection in Poland).
