1970 Lotus Elan S4 Drop Head Coupe - DOHC 1557cc, RHD
Presented in the iconic Yellow Lotus colour with contrasting black leatherette interior.
The previous owner had enjoyed the car for over 40 years in the family, ! During this time the DOHC 1557cc engine was rebuilt and many parts where replaced or re-conditioned.
The car was purchased by me a few years ago and underwent a few parts replacements - like the alternator, electric fuel pump, horn, re-conditioned Stromberg carburetor, brake pistons .
Always kept in garage and only driven in dry condition. It has covered minimal mileage since I purchased it. The paintwork is very good for the age but has some micro blisters only in parts of the coachwork. Tyres are in excellent condition and all features work. The chassis is original with little rust and the chassis matched the engine and chassis number plaque.
Fully working original radio and switches. A genuine iconic British car.
Included are the workshop manual, instructions and original convertible hood with label.
Overall this is a good example of an iconic British classic and drives well.
Only about 3000 Elan S4 cars were produced in total, with a small percentage being the SE version. The 'Special Equipment' version differs by having servo assisted brakes, an SE engine developing 118 bhp instead of 105 bhp, safety belts, a leather covered steering wheel, knock-on wheels with chrome embellishers, carpeted boot interior and Special Equipment badges. The Lotus Elan embodied the Colin Chapman minimum weight design philosophy. Technologically advanced at the time, with a DOHC 1557 cc engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, and 4-wheel independent suspension.
Purchased from a family owner a few years ago and always kept in garage and only driven in dry condition - minimal mileage. It comes with workshop manual and a huge file containing records of repair, maintenance, manual, old MOT's and road tax certificates. It drives well and is enjoyable. Sadly, I am no longer able to keep the much loved car as I will be downsizing and have enjoyed it as much as I could.
