FULL-SIZE CHENOWTH – TAMIYA FAST ATTACK VEHICLE TRIBUTE

A VERY SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR THE SERIOUS TAMIYA COLLECTOR

With Tamiya celebrating 50 years of RC cars in 2026, this has to be one of the most unusual Tamiya-related vehicles available to a collector.

This is a full-size, road-registered Chenowth sand rail, professionally rebuilt to an exceptional standard and finished as a tribute to the iconic Tamiya Fast Attack Vehicle.

For anyone who grew up with Tamiya buggies, this is about as close as you can get to owning the real thing behind the model.

The Tamiya Fast Attack Vehicle remains one of the company’s classic RC designs, and genuine Chenowth buggies have become particularly interesting to Tamiya enthusiasts because of that connection.

THE CHENOWTH

This is an original Chenowth sand rail imported from the USA in 1972 , purchased through Dave at Kingfisher Kustoms many years ago.

Originally built around a VW air-cooled engine and Type 2 gearbox, the buggy was later stored for a number of years before being completely rebuilt to create something considerably more special.

The result is this spectacular Rover V8-powered Chenowth, finished in a distinctive Tamiya-inspired blue, white and red colour scheme with extensive Tamiya and Blockhead Motors graphics and detailing.

Two genuine Tamiya models are mounted on the roof, adding to the unique presentation.

The vehicle has also attended numerous shows and comes with a collection of trophies accumulated during its show career.

THE V8

The Rover 3500cc V8 has been rebuilt and upgraded with:

Hurricane camshaft and hydraulic lifters
Cloyes timing chain kit and pulleys
Electronic distributor and coil
New starter motor, alternator and clutch components
Offenhauser 360-degree intake manifold
Edelbrock 500 CFM carburettor and air filter
Remote oil filter and braided lines
Facet fuel pump with regulator and gauge
Stainless-steel core plugs and water drain taps

The result is a lightweight buggy with serious performance and an unforgettable V8 soundtrack.

GEARBOX

Rare and extremely strong 091 Type 2 six-rib gearbox, completely rebuilt by Bears of Birmingham, specialists in VW gearboxes.

A Jeff Berrisford gearbox-to-engine conversion allows the use of the Rover V8 clutch, flywheel and starter motor.

EXHAUST

Full stainless-steel exhaust system, designed for the car and custom fabricated by J. P. Exhausts of Macclesfield.

CHASSIS, SUSPENSION & BRAKES

The chassis and suspension have been strengthened to race specification with numerous additional bars.

Extensive components have been powder coated, including suspension arms, driveshafts, mudguards, mounting bars, rear shock springs, fuel tanks and rocker covers.
