The appeal
The Alpine A110 ranks amongst the most famous French sports cars of the 1960s and 1970s; its ultra-lightweight fibreglass construction, rear-engine layout and compact dimensions make it a formidable force in rallying. The 1300G variant, with its 1.3-litre four-cylinder twin-carburettor engine, is at the heart of the A110 range and remains highly sought-after by enthusiasts and collectors.
This 1966 example has been fitted with Group 4 bodywork and a 1973 Monte Carlo-style livery, giving it a striking vintage racing look with its blue paintwork and period decals. It sits on 13-inch orange Gotti wheels with silver trim and features front and rear tow bars, further enhancing its rally-inspired aesthetic. Inside, the cabin has been modernised with new bucket seats (the same bucket seats originally fitted to the model), safety harnesses and a Momo Prototipo steering wheel.
We understand that the car was repainted in 2000. Routine servicing is up to date, and the replacement engine (a 1440cc fuel-injected Renault 5 Alpine unit) underwent a full restoration in 2018 by the current owner. It has since been stored in a locked garage and regularly maintained for occasional use.
The seller notes that the replacement engine – a 1,440cc fuel-injected unit from the Renault 5 Alpine – has covered only 25,000 km; the gearbox has also been replaced (by DM, an Alpine specialist), along with various other mechanical components. The engine is “ethanol-compatible” with an electronic fuel injection unit. The engine has been fully restored. It features 301 camshafts, forged pistons, new liners, new connecting rods and a large Super 5 Turbo oil pump. For those looking for an Alpine A110 with a racing-inspired look and a straightforward ownership history, this is a compelling proposition.
Repainted in 2000; major restoration of the engine and mechanical components carried out in 2018 by the current owner (engine, gearbox and steering linkage replaced. Large, bespoke water radiator fitted at the rear. Large oil cooler fitted at the front).
