Highlights

  • One of only a handful known to exist
  • Seemingly complete and very original restoration project
  • Really curious panoramic rear window, (Lunotto Panoramico

The Appeal

Translating as “Little Mouse”,  Topolino is beloved by the Italian people and is really the starting point in Fiat’s long tradition of building compact city cars. Here we have a rather special example featuring coachwork by Italian Carrozeria Francis Lombardi. The most curious element of the design is of course the sizable panoramic rear window that allows a great deal of light into the cabin.

The car has been off the road since the 1970s and so requires full restoration. The vendor informs us that only three of these Lunotto Panoramico Lombardi specials are known to exist with this being one of them. In spite of the car’s tired overall appearance, it looks to be remarkably complete and with such intriguing provenance, is undoubtedly worth restoring.

The History and Paperwork

  • We’re informed that only three examples are known to exist
  • The car sat unused in a dealership since the 1980s
  • The owner of the dealership had always intended to restore the car but never found time
  • It was then passed to his son who stored it for a few more years before it was acquired by the vendor

The Interior

  • Appears mostly complete and untouched
  • Will of course require total restoration
  • Presented in ‘as found’ condition
  • Retains its rubber mats on the floor
  • The simple dashboard remains intact, retaining its instruments and switchgear
  • So far as we could see, the vinyl seats are in pretty good condition
  • The headlining has fallen down and is no longer serviceable
  • Service sticker still present in the driver’s door jamb
  • Even the remnants of the original door cards remain in place
  • All of the controls appear to be present and in reasonable condition
  • The electrics remain untested

The Exterior

  • Supplied with the car are the original roof frames to reinstate the sunroof which has been closed up in the past
  • Naturally, the bodywork will require some restoration as there is rust present
  • There doesn’t appear to have been much damage to the car and the body is really straight
  • While there is sure to be extensive rust in places, the car looks generally sound and the crazed paintwork is quite attractive if you’re a fan of patina
  • We’re informed that the floors will require some work
  • The chromework is of course no longer serviceable and the same goes for the rubbers
  • All of the trim and light units show their age but should be restorable
  • The steel wheels retain their hubcaps
  • The car can be pushed around on the tyres but they will of course need replacing
  • Lower part of the doors have rust through them and also on the floors especially at the rear

The Mechanics

  • All looks to be present and correct under the bonnet
  • No attempt has been made to start the car
  • Having sat for so long, the engine and gearbox will require rebuilding
  • Topolino parts are plentiful
  • 567cc, four-cylinder engine

Summary

A fabulous candidate for restoration, this rare and unusual Fiat deserves a second chance.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
