The Appeal
Rarer and more delicately styled than its better-known ‘3000’ successor, the 100-6 is the car that kick-started the Big Healey’s dominance across American interstates and the world’s rally stages and race tracks. Most of these cars went abroad, all part of Britain’s export-or-die drive, leaving just 1,100 to service home market RHD customers.
This beautiful white and blue 1959 is badged as a 3000 but is in fact one of the very last 2+2 BN4 100-6 UK market cars. DVLA records and photographs confirm it remains a matching numbers car and is equipped with the optional factory overdrive that makes these early cars so much more usable over long distances. It is also equipped with a rare factory electric choke.
It has spent time a large part of its life in France in dry storage, before returning to the UK in 2023, when the buyer acquired it. The large history file shows that it was restored in 2012 by well-regarded model ‘guru’ Barry Hodson. The quality of that work is evident in the photos, the paintwork presenting well and the body panels fitting flushly. The dark blue removable roof is in good order, as is the 2+2 cabin with its lovely early dashboard.
The current owner has invested in a brake overhaul, a replacement radiator and electric fan, and a stainless steel exhaust. It is said to run and drive well. A very pretty and highly presented example of the early six cylinder Big Healey.
The vendor says:
“Mechanically in very good condition, it has an electric choke which I understand to be quite rare. It also has overdrive which works well. A beautiful car with lovely interior that turns heads as it roars by.”
