HERE'S my 1967 Morris 1100 Mark 1 estate. Yes, that's the one. The same model and year as the orange version which took such a thrashing from the one and only Basil Fawlty! Actually Basil's was an Austin. But, as we all know, what's the difference really!
The 1100 estate was rare enough back in the day, never mind now. Indeed it wouldn't surprise me if some of you classic car lovers out there have never seen one in the flesh. She's a really pretty 51-year-old girl and she drives wonderfully. Just as an 1100 should. She's extremely strong and has a current MoT until February 2019 even although, strictly speaking, she no longer needs testing. That came with no advisories. She has been recently re-trimmed and you can see just how attractive the two-tone interior is. I always think that the first models turn out to be the best when you look back ie Mark 1s. And looking at this Mark 1 transports me back to the early 60s and marvelling at how cute these new 1100s were with their chrome bonnet flash, Morris badge and chrome grille. Then there was that quirky giant plastic dashboard with cubby holes all over the place. She has had some inevitable work over the years but anything that has been done has been done really well, making her strong in all the crucial areas such as sub-frame mounts - she has had new ones - and sills which have been replaced recently.
Both front wings were replaced at the same time, and she was given a fresh paint job too. I understand that a new steering rack was also fitted. She does have some small paint imperfections here and there but nothing which I believe detracts from her being such a pretty, eye-catching rarity of a classic.
She comes with an impressive history file in which stacks of old MoTs trace her mileage over the past 30 years. I would imagine that the current total of 74, 000 would be correct.
Please bear in mind that we are looking at a car which is more than half a century old here. Please do not run your finger across her and expect her to be just as tidy as your one-year-old BMW. She has had repair work and will doubtless need on going care in the future. Her rear seat back folds both ways (see photos) giving you a completely flat estate bed area or else a sort of rear seat facing outwards if you fancy a picnic with the back door open. It does appear that she needs a couple of catches, pegs or even small bolts fitting simply to keep the back rest in place when it is pushed back up. I may even do this myself.
I accept all major debit cards and delivery can be arranged too and so please ask for a quote. Thanks, Martin the details below)
