Finished in brilliant red with gold lettering and coach lines, complemented by a tan seat. The bike has had a full ground up restoration costing many thousands of pounds to concourse condition and has travelled only one test mile since the restoration, which took a number of years to complete. Triton motorcycles were not factory models but were hybrid bikes built in the 60’s and 70’s. Some London dealers offered complete bikes and the dealer fitted Triumph engines into Norton frames - the aim was to combine the best elements of each marque thus gaining a bike superior to either. Many Tritons were co figured as a single seater café racer. The name Triton is a contraction of Triumph and Norton; and Triton was the name of a mythological Greek God. The Norton featherbed frame was regarded as the best handling item of the day and the Triton rationale was to combine the best engine with the best frame by replacing the standard Norton engine with the Triumph parallel twin engine. A popular engine choice was the Triumph Bonneville unit with twin carburettors and twin camshafts. This bike has the correct featherbed frame and is a true Triton. Itui, was first registered on 2nd august 1971 by its first owner and has had only 2 owners since. The mileage in 1999 was 10088 and this was prior to the restoration. The chassis number is P1484102 the engine number is T120RD1367.
The history folder includes, current and previous V5s, correspondence, DVLA paperwork, write ups, old Mot and invoices. The bike is taxed as an historic vehicle and is therefore zero rated for road tax. It is sold with a very valuable, transferable registration number of 8515 ET (phone home) and we are told the number plate has a value of around £4000).
I purchased this bike myself in 2015 from a very important museum in Edisonweg, Netherlands and since then it has formed part of my own private collection. The bike is in truly outstanding concourse condition and deserves a place in the best collections.
