One of a number of BMW Airheads that we’ve recently acquired.
This one is a 4 owner, 1979, R100 RT, and looking very “old school” in her two tone Havana gold metalic over light gold metallic coachwork. Although there are one or two marks to the paintwork, it’s lovely to see an old Airhead wearing its factory original paint.
This one came to us through a well respected BMW specialist, and although unusually, there’s little supporting paperwork, its clearly been a cherished bike. The first aid kit and folding lock are still in place under the seat, and she’s fitted with the obligatory full stainless exhaust system. Unused for a number of years, the bike now sports new tyres and a new battery, and everything electrical appears to be working as it should. As a matter of course, we will give the bike a fresh MOT.
Mechanically, she’s absolutely spot on, with one of the quietest boxer engines we’ve heard in a while. Out on the road, gearbox / clutch are spot on, and with the unusual triple disc set up, she stops well. No smoke, no rattles, no leaks, no drama. She just does what a good boxer should. Quite amazing, given that she’s creeping towards her 40th birthday. Comes with the twin front discs, auxiliary clocks, crashbars, and BMW luggage.
There’s bound to be some tinkering required, especially given the lack of use over recent years, but as i say, we’ll give her a fresh MOT, refresh the oils, and balance the carbs, all prior to sale.
