1956 Bedford RLHZ Green Goddess Self Propelled Pump - Fire Engine.
(Built 1954)
Only 3650 miles from new. All instruction manuals and handbook included. V5 present and in my name.
Tax and MOT exempt and can be driven on a normal car licence as it is registered as a historic vehicle. It costs about £120 a year to insure. This will depend on the number of drivers registered. Runs and drives fine, it has got a 4. 9litre six cylinder petrol engine with 4 speed box, 4 wheel drive and high and low ratio. It is great fun and a challenge to use and has a comfortable cruise speed of about 40 mph.
As far as I know it is complete with all the equipment and tools it had when released from service. The equipment matches the inventory list and I have added other items. The auxiliary Coventry Climax pump is included but I have never tested the pump systems. It is all there and I can not see any reason it will not work.
The beacons and sirens work. A genuine bell has been sourced and fitted.
It is in very good condition, solid underneath as you would expect of a vehicle that's been in dry storage most of its life.
It served in the Fireman strike in 1977 (Flashing light on front of period) and also in 2002 when Dalton Barracks used it. (Flashing light on rear of period) The bell would have been removed when the siren was fitted in 2002. In the 1977 strike it had to be escorted by the police.
It is not mint as the original patina and history has been maintained as much as possible. The covering on the timber roof was perished badly and so has been replaced to waterproof the unit. The brakes were rebuilt last year as the old asbestos units could have failed on hills. The tires have no splits or cracks and I have a spare wheel for it. Any inspection welcome by prior arrangement at Powick near Worcester. Call the details below to arrange or any questions.
