My 1964 A. J. S 250 is up for sale these little motorcycles are becoming sought after now and the prices are steadily rising so make a good investment as well as being used for enjoyment. The motorcycle is in very good used condition not perfect but good any inspection welcome. Original matching engine/ frame & gearbox numbers also retains its non transferable original registration number engine starts runs nice with good oil return gearbox/ clutch selects all gears up & down also stops quite good with the csr front brake but as with most old machinery it may need a little tinkering along with regular servicing. Charging system works rewire by a prior owner, modern rectifier/ regulator & new battery, side/ tail/ brake/ head/ main & dip lights + horn all in good working condition just had a full service with quality oils & filter ready for the new season. Lots of work & parts have been done and fitted over the bikes lifetime to keep it as good and has had in the recent past cables, chains & sprockets, spark plug condenser coil & points, old carb rebuilt, new fuel lines/ filters, chrome bar end mirror forks rebuilt and more. Also benefits from a side stand along with the factory main stand and very handy luggage rack next to new tyres all chrome work very good apart from front wheel, original Dunlop wheels rear re chromed & respoked front rim a bit dull but still presentable cleans up quite good all paintwork good in my view the rear mudguard would benefit from a little prep & re paint. Being the later csr model has the better engine internals also teledraulic front forks engine casings front brake etc some history in a file consisting of old and modern registration books dating certificate from the AJS/ Matchless owners club some old mot certificates and invoices. Due to the age of the motorcycle its sold as seen basis with no warranty/ guarantee given or implied. photographs were taken on a little run 0n 29/ 04/ 2019 please contact if more details are required.
Reason for sale is I have been giving the opportunity of a motorcycle project I have been wanting for quite a while, I am not dispirit to sell but the funds and space would be nice to have.
I am honest/ quite picky and do not want mine or others time wasted so the only negative's in my view are -
-Rear mudguard could do with a little prep and repaint.
The usual small oil leak when left standing a while.
Front rim is dull and has slight marks cleans up not bad will re chrome good if that's your preference.
Seat cover has 2 very small holes as can hardly be seen in photographs.
Pinstripe tape on petrol tank acceptable but could be better.
Remember its a basic 55 year old commuter motorcycle one of the thousand's made that has survived, many didn't after teenagers flogging the life out them trudging to work and back on a daily basis used at the weekend for leisure then laid up for years at a time.
