Beschreibung
This listing is for an early complete "Hedingham" Solo (SS), sometimes referred to as "The Hedingham" by Unit Sidecars of Sible Hedingham (no longer trading although I read that a chap in Dorset has started building them again), as described below and shown in photos. In case it's not obvious, the unit is a LEFT hand mount for UK and other commonwealth country roads.
= Frame is an early one I believe, or perhaps a customer special, as it has fixed welded mounting points for the stays rather than the more common circular clamps, I've never seen another like it. It would not be difficult to cut those of and fit circular clamps as I had originally intended but equally if the position suited the bike it was intended to mount to I'd be inclined to leave them. They are very substantial and have a range of three fitting positions for the upper strut eyes, see photos. I have the two lower bolt on mounts with strut turn buckle eyes, these could be quite easily modified to suit the tug. The main hoop structure is in good condition with some surface rust here and there as shown, original factory sticker still attached. No damage that I can find, no tow hitch mounting on the rear of the inner rail as is sometimes fitted, hinge mounts for tail rack (included) are straight, torsion bar moves freely.
= Body is in good condition with a few cosmetic scratches as you'd expect, nothing serious or that goes through the gel coat. Boot lid is good and hinges / luggage rails are in decent condition. It appears to have had a hood fitted at some time but I do not have that, the touneau cover has been perished since I've had it but kept just as a sample. These chairs are long, both in the front (a six footer can be comfortably accomodated) and the boot (it must be at least 60 litres capacity) but are quite slim considering the substantial external frame, depending of course on how it's mounted and to what, CBX! If you are not familiar with these chairs, the ride height can be adjusted to suit the combination by changing the position of the torsion bar inner flange. The ride is very comfortable, think Moggie Minor or earlier Beetle.
= Wheel is an Akront Alloy rim with galvanised spokes, all in good condition. Hub is good although I can't vouch for the bearing and the tyre is only left on the rim for convenience.
= Mudgaurd is complete with lights, solid and in good condition with the exception of two chips out of the gel coat on the outer trailing edge and a star craze on the outer centre.
= Probably the most important part, if unicorns had screens, this would be one. It is in good condition with no cracks or chips, handle with care. It's the fixed screen model so don't let your passenger lean on it getting in or out.
= Seat is moulded in, there is not soft pad, I did have one but it was not in great shape, it went to a motorcycle upholstery specialist who has since dissapeared with it.
If you require more photos or more information, there isn't a lot more than noted here, please get in touch.
I bought this with a project in mind but that has been cancelled for various reasons, not least of which is health. It's been under cover for a while and now it needs to go. It's not been tarted up for the photos, what you see is what you get. This is listed on other websites and specialist magazines, so it may be withdrawn if the asking price is met before auction end. Viewing is recomended but I do understand this might be difficult to arrange. Collection only but I will make every effort to cooperate with an appointed courier if needed or help with loading it into a van or onto a trailer (bring your own lashings).
