A superb replica of the classic Lotus XI race car of 1956, which was well respected for its beautiful lines and competition successes. Based on a new kit from Westfield and the engine, gearbox, rear axle and brakes from a 1275 MG Midget, the XI offers classic looks combined with brisk performance and well balanced handling.
This example has been lovingly built by the past Competition Secretary of the Westfield Sports Car Club over the last 4 years, and is only for sale due to a complete change of direction and unforeseen change in circumstances. It is a new car which was IVA’d in November 2017 and then registered in February 2018. This is a special commemorative edition car (number 48 of 50) and has travelled negligible miles since the build.
All donor vehicle parts have been fully reconditioned, and the engine increased to 1330cc and converted to unleaded fuel. The twin SU carburettors were set-up by a period specialist to give excellent starting and running. The car also features Minilite wheels, a Mountney period red leather steering wheel, front anti roll bar and a tonneau cover. The driver's seat is on sliders.
