Description
An opportunity to buy one-of-two FJ Landcruisers imported new by Toyota GB in 1975, and one of only one currently registered as on the road.
Collector vehicle in original condition, LYU was originally imported new as a demonstrator by Toyota, with date of first registration 01. 04. 76
The FJ benefits from a strong history folder including time on the Sherrin family farm under Alfred Sherrin, brother of UK broadcaster Ned Sherrin. We hold a letter from Alfred to the prospective purchaser, discussing the merits of the FJ.
Unrestored, LYU has had the benefit of regular maintenance as documented in the history folder, which combined with the legendary Toyota build quality means it starts and runs well. It makes it a genuine pleasure to drive.
Wearing the coat of paint it left the factory in, the FJ also retains the original Toyota accessories which demonstrate the depth of thought in the manufacture of these vehicles:
- original Toyota jack and jacking handles
- original Toyota starting handle
- original Toyota toolkit bag
- original Toyota inspection lamp, functioning through the accessory two pin plug in the glove box (pocket)
- original Toyota floor mats
- original sound deadening panel under bonnet
While Australian and South African imports are a regular feature in the marketplace, this is a unique proposition; original UK Toyota demonstrator, with extensive history and interest having passed through the Sherrin family's ownership.
To date, we have not encountered a vehicle which attracted the same level of goodwill and positive engagement from friends and strangers alike.
With the power and reliability of the 4. 2 litre six cylinder engine, the FJ is fully capable of driving comfortably in modern traffic, and on longer journeys makes a remarkable vintage cruiser.
There are several areas of degradation, most notably around the join between the cab upper and lower where rust has attacked the upper segment lower channel section.
Furthermore, the driver seat is in need of sensitive restoration having worn through - the FJ currently sports a replacement seat for day to day use which will be returned to the original for sale.
While LYU is now awarded classic-exempt status, it has extensive mot history confirming mileage.
