The first glimpse of the Boxster concept appeared back in 1993 when Porsche revealed a silver car from under the covers at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. At the time at the 'new' 986 was a revelation. And now, although new models are inevitably faster, there is a delightful clarity with an early 986. It's exactly the way Porsche designed and intended their new mid engined machine.
Exceptional examples of these are beginning to gather pace as a great collectable, the first or the last are always the most desirable. Our Guards red 986 is a very fine example of one of the original pure Boxsters, supplied new in May 1997 just a few months after the UK launch.
Back in 2010 we supplied this 986 in absolutely spotless 'like new' condition with just under 30, 000 miles. At that point it was a Boxster which already stood out from the crowd. It is an exceptionally fine drive and illustrates how seemingly small things come together to give a cohesive driving experience. As such, this lighter, earlier Boxster exudes purity, enhanced with the factory optioned 'Sport Technic' pack which included M030 sports suspension and traction control.
At the moment there are plenty of cheap Boxster 986 to be found, but very few exist in this original condition. If you want cheap, this isn't the Boxster for you; if you appreciate special.... this is it!
This one we promise, will impress. It has remained with the same owner for the last 9 years, very local to us, limited in use, babied and garaged. At 22 years old, it looks, feels and drives as though a 3 year old. Look after it as it has been so far and you have something very special which will become ever more special.
Genuinely a modern classic, we give this our top grade, without hesitation this is a 5. We are happy to share our inspection report, but better to judge it when you see it.
