Named after Mr. Piero Rivolta’s wife, the Iso Rivolta Lele is a GT Sports Coupé produced between 1969 and 1974.
A rare sight on the road, especially in Australia just 280 cars were produced during its lifespan and it’s believed there was just 1 car delivered to our island by the factory. The Lele was Iso’s answer to the Lamborghini Espada, the only other high-end 2+2 GT car offered at the time.
Beautifully styled by Marcello Gandini under Bertone, the Lele features partially hidden head lights and an artfully integrated all chrome front bumper over a GM derived 5. 4 litre V8 with 350hp and a sporting chassis designed by the great Giotto Bizzarrini of Ferrari 250 GTO fame.
This very early production 1970 Blue Metallizzo over Tan leather Iso Rivolta Lele is said to be just the fifth car off the line and was originally delivered new to Australia in right hand drive.
Ordered with the silky 3-speed automatic and presented in excellent condition this exceedingly rare classic was meticulously restored just over a decade ago and has been driven sparingly ever since.
Works included a total engine rebuild, new back to bare metal paintwork and all new period correct trim, from the timber steering wheel to double stitched leather covered dash.
Inside, the instrument layout is beautifully simple with the speedometer and tach in a shapely pod behind the wheel, toggle controls laid out inside the waterfall style centre console, the shifter is a delight to click into gear and being automatic, there is plenty of legroom for Grand Touring.
A rolling sculpture, the exterior still features its original the Sekurit glass, the unusual Iso script badging and it still rides on the correct Campagnolo Elektron magnesium alloy wheels. Indicative signs of a well-mantained car.
The drive is sensational. Power delivery from the V8 is strong and linear with long legs, absolutely perfect for grand touring. With 360-degree views of the world around you there is nothing else that compares to this.
For those of us with a penchant for the unusual, Iso Rivolta stand as creators of some of the most desirable examples of Italian automotive engineering extant.
This beautiful, rare and left of centre Lele is one of Iso’s finest and something that has to be owned and enjoyed to be believed.
