this is a very rare opportunity to acquire a late model ultra van ultra coach which is already in the uk which is already and fully registered with a v5.
this classic camper is the penultimate made by ultra van in the usa and lived most of it’s life in arizona. Only five were made and this is the only survivor of the final production 60- series known to be still on the road. It is also the only ultra van of any model i know of residing in the uk.
it is constructed of sheet aluminium on a steel sub frame. This means it only weighs about 5000lbs. The original power plant was an oldsmobile 350 v8 but it is now powered by a 3. 8 v6 chevrolet vortec which although smaller and lighter has more than enough power and is much more economical as well as being very well supported for parts. It has air suspension, an immobiliser and video cameras to aid driving from the left.
the van has gas central heating, hot water, a gas fridge, a bathroom with shower, a huge double bed which breaks down to bench seats, air conditioning, a 110v generator, a full kitchen and ample storage. It is wonderful to stay in and draws attention wherever it goes.
the seats are custom made aluminium and copied from a cold war bomber.
the vehicle was owned by an artist and the unusual style of the interior reflects this, being extensively decorated with collage and beautiful upholstery and curtains.
i have spent a lot of money on this amazing vehicle but i have lost my storage and have too many other projects.
i have quite a lot of history on the bus and contacts of previous owners. There is also a facebook enthusiasts group who are very helpful.
i have recently overhauled and replaced the front hubs and brakes including pipes and discs.
this is a truly unique vehicle and you will almost certainly never see another. As it is aluminium it could be stripped back to the metal (this was my intention and i would do this if was keeping it but i just don’t have the time because of other projects).
it is fully registered in the uk as an historic vehicle. Mileage is unknown.
the bus requires some recommissioning as it has not been used for two years.

most things work and the engine is great.
there is no rust on the bus.
all the glass is intact.
great tyres, wheels, brakes overhauled.

central heating works really well on lpg system
bad points
the power steering pump needs replacing or repairing. Although the vehicle starts and drives this needs doing before it can be safely taken on the road. This is because the power steering feeds a hydroboost system to boost brake operation and the reduced efficiency of the pump means the brakes are not working properly either.
the main issue with this job is identifying the parts but it is likely that they are from a chevy blazer. There is a facebook group who have been very helpful to me in this respect.
the steering column also requires some attention. It needs to be better secured and braced. It has become a bit wobbly due to increased torsion when the pump has been inoperative. This is not a difficult job but would need to be done by someone who is mechanically minded.
the 110v generator needs overhauling.
one battery is dodgy and will need replacing.
the fridge may need servicing as it has not been used for two years.
it needs a new speedo cable.
this is an easy winter project for someone who is mechanically inclined or has the money to get someone to do irt for them.
