Welcome to the sale of this 1978 MGB GT. Finished in Vermillion (Orange) this car has had everything it has needed in the careful hands of its last 3 owners throughout the last 20 years. It has had 9 previous owners in total. With MOT's and history back to the late 80's the history makes an interesting read.
In 1990 the car was showing just 1577 miles which would suggest either it had an engine rebuild then or a new speedometer - the previous 1988 MOT shows just 45654 miles. Every MOT since backs up the mileage of today which is showing 22955. A quick glance through the DVLA website also records the minimal use in the last 20 years. Despite this, it has been serviced every year by the same garage and there has been no expense spared in the maintenance of this well regarded classic. The bills for work carried out include a newly trimmed interior, uprated distributor, carbs rebuilt and balanced, new wheels and tyres, bodywork under sealed, wax oiled and touched in/ replaced where needed, bumpers refurbished, fuel pump, leads, new brakes and master cylinder, poly bushings etc etc. The last bill in June 2019 shows brakes rebuilt, handbrake replaced, carbs stripped and new gaskets fitted - a total spend of £744 to get it running and driving spot on which it now does,
This car also has working overdrive in 3rd and 4th gear so cruising at 70 is a pleasure. The gearbox is precise and the engine responsive, The full length sunroof is an excellent addition giving a feeling of open top motoring without the worry of a leaking roof. The Moto Lita steering wheel sets of the restored interior and it is a great place to be with excellent door cards and an original dashboard finish. An original Drivers Handbook comes with the car. It is now Road Tax exempt and MOT exempt (although it is tested until June next year). There is a radio fitted but it does not currently work.
As with many 40 years old cars there are a few areas that could be tidied up. As per the pics there are a few corrosion bubbles - notably in a small area of the front of the drivers door, the back of the lower rear wing and some on the top of the A pillars under the windscreen outer edges. However, you can get your hand behind these areas of bubbling and they do not move suggesting that the paint surface could be rubbed down and refinished should you wish (there is a small pot of Vermillion with the car). Underneath the car is very good indeed and all the inner wings both front and rear are excellent. The castle rails are excellent. The tops of the rear wings are excellent. There is a dulling of the paint on the bonnet on the front quarter of the bonnet but it does, as the pictures show, shine up well. Of course any inspection is welcome and we have taken photos of all the above mentioned areas - please feel free to come and inspect.
In summary this is a smart MGB GT which is ready to enjoy. The tyres, brakes, engine, interior, sunroof etc etc are all excellent and it has a great history showing much recent expenditure, There are a few areas of paint you might what to tinker with but overall it is in very good order indeed.
A great colour combination with a great driving experience and a great car for either shows or everyday use.
Ready to go for a blast!
