Description
Zakspeed racing team was formed in 1968 and soon became Ford's official team in the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft series. Its founder Erich Zakowski established Zakspeed in the series through his modified Ford Escort MKI RS1600 which featured an aerodynamically shaped body, a featherlight weight of 840 kg and a heavily modified Ford BDA DOHC engine of 1. 6lt which was later bored to 2. 0lt to produce over 250 bhp. Zakspeed's team through its talented Hans Joackim Stuck, Dieter Glemser and Hans Heyer won every single championship title for the 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975 DRM series.
The car featured here was sourced by well known hillclimb driver Mr. Giorgos Katsaros in 2011 to be built by Greece's foremost rally preparation expert, the late Mr. Lambros Agelakis of Agelakis Motorsports. The 1968 2-door MKI body was scrapped into bare metal, reinforced and converted via fitting a UK-supplied Zakspeed widebody kit. The engine was prepared by John Wilcox Competition Engines to produce 236bhp at 8000 rpm and 225 Nm at 7000 rpm to the rear wheels. The gearbox was overhauled and fitted a Historic spec. Group 2 upgrade kit. The overall result was an unbeatable performer which in the hands of its skillful hillclimb expert driver began a streak of championship title wins that no one has managed to challenge to this day. Recently, the engine was even further developed by Jondel Racing Engines offering an additional 14 bhp to 248bhp at 8000 rpm and 238 Nm at 7000 rpm resulting in a 31% power to weight ratio. After 7 consecutive Championship Titles and 29 1st place wins this astounding hillclimb performer is offered for sale.
