History of the now very loved and internationally famous Mini Moke is as interesting and varied as its ownership. Designed in the late 50’s by Sir Alec Issigonis & John Sheppard, the Moke was conceived as a lightweight military vehicle. Codenamed “The Buckboard”, by 1959 BMC had introduced working prototypes to the UK Army. The initial concept was to provide UK troops with a vehicle that could be parachuted into battle, thus giving ground forces the enormous advantage of rapid mobility.

Unsurprisingly, the design's small wheels and low ground clearance made it unsuitable as an off-road military vehicle, but when introduced in civilian form, its low-cost & easy maintenance made the Moke an instant success. Global popularity as a lightweight, recreational and utility vehicle saw the Moke the longest & most successful vehicle ever for the now defunct BMC, with production numbers well over 50, 000 units from the UK, Portugal and Australian plants.

This beautiful example is a genuine BMC UK built 4-seat model and has undergone a full restoration some 2-3 years ago. During the restoration it received many upgrades & improvements to suspension, engine and ancillary items.

1330cc engine, Kent camshaft, minisport roller rockers, facet electronic fuel pump, 40 DOEC Weber carburettor, 3-2-1 race extractors, new SS exhaust & sports muffler. Cylinder-head ported & flowed, combustion chambers opened & flowed, new valves & valve seats. Cooling system upgraded with new oversize aluminium radiator & custom overflow canister. LED taillights, SAAS electronic water temp & oil pressure gauges, new original design canvas upholstery & Momo woodgrain sports steering wheel, fully adjustable suspension & HILO pushrods, ride height cups & cones, new brakes all round, new John Brown replica Minilite wheels & 175/ 50R tyres.

Recent improvements include replacing original BMC starter motor with reconditioned Gemini unit, new alternator, new Bosch coil, master 12V isolator switch, new full chassis wiring loom & upgrade to modern blade type fuse block. Engine just refreshed with valve seats cut & valves lapped, new Victor Reinz head-gasket, new kevar bypass hose.

This spectacular Moke drives as good as it looks. Although driven most sunny weekends, this has done very little k’s since its restoration. Always garaged under cover and never seen rain, this fun machine will happily cruise around town in top gear, but when a bit of excitement is required will surprise many modern cars with its excellent power to weight ratio. The 1330 engine pulls strong from low revs right through the rev range and will cruise comfortably at or above traffic flow all day long.

International buyers please note - The advertised price includes all export docs & DG preparation, and all shipping charges into any Port in the world.
