Description

Here is my Lambretta that I have owned since 2015. Reducing my collection and this just one does not get used...

There are lots of documents with it and I have tried my best to dissect its history....

It was originally registered in Germany 18th May 1954. Original German reg document with bike.

After four owners, it appears to have been bought in 1961 by a serving RAF sergeant in Germany (Robert Nicholson) – on British Forces reg UH 78 B BFG. He kept a documented history of all costs from Oct 61 onwards. Looks like he sprayed it by hand in RAF blue in 1963.

He brought the scooter back to the UK and it was registered in May 63 as 614FXE (Buff log book) with various addresses where he was stationed.

In 69/ 70, the documented history logs a rebuild and re spray again in RAF blue along with an engine change to a 125LD motor (2 engines noted as being bought). It was used up until 1977 when it was laid up/ stripped

In 1984, the owner recommissioned it, fitted another engine (another 125LD), sprayed it again in RAF blue and had to have it reregistered with DVLA where it was allocated its current reg ESV141.

It looks like he kept the scooter until he sold it in 2005 (so, 44 years). It then had 3 owners prior to me.

I bought it with the intention of restoring it but, with the LD motor and the significant history, I thought I would keep it as is rather than ruin that well worn history.

It is not concours by any stretch but has a certain quirkiness. I reckon it was painted blue with a spray can and the seats are made from leather but add to the patina. Yes, those are wooden running strips!

It starts, runs and stops. I have never actually ridden it on the road. It will need a thorough check over / fettle and new tyres as these are starting to crack a bit (probably on since 1984).

It looks like front mudguard was shortened and a mud flap fitted at some point.

So, a good honest Model D 125 with a great history which probably makes the bike. I started it a few days ago. Petrol tap weeping when on and will try to sort if I have time. Please note that photos always look better than reality – just trying to be honest and I would rather undersell it....

I will do my best to answer any questions and viewing is welcome / recommended near Manningtree, Essex.
