We are delighted to present for sale this refurbished Series 1 80?, rebuilt onto a Galvanised Chassis. The refurbishment has been undertaken in-house to a high standard to replicate the commissioned build we did for the Royal Yacht Britannia’s Garage, with the ship stationed in Leith.
Externally, as the photos show, care was taken to produce an identical vehicle to that requested for the Royal Yacht. This vehicle is one of three in total that we produced as a batch at that time. It has a good quality paint finish, along with a recent canvas and sticks. Subtle indicators have been added to the front bumper to make the vehicle easier and safer to drive in modern town traffic. 750 tyres are fitted for the ‘military’ look and give a strong stance.
The interior houses 3 spade back seats, along with a pair of rear twin benches, and again this is presented to a good standard. Along with the refurbishment, there was a fair list of snags and niggle tasks which were undertaken so that the vehicle could be presented in the best possible manner.
Out on the road, the 2 litre is a very sweet runner, and with the exception of a new starter motor, it has been wholly reliable. The larger 750 tyres coupled with the perky engine give a very pleasing driving experience, despite the age of this vehicle. It has been used ‘stripped’ (as some photos show) for added fun and cool factor during our increasingly long and hot summers.
If you are looking for a rare, early, lights behind the grill Series 1 Land Rover®, of a limited run of just three vehicles, then this must be an interesting proposition. This vehicle has been celebrity owned and with attached provenance it should prove to be a good investment, whilst still being very useable. With MOT and tax exemption and classic insurance, it should also prove to be cheap to run in the long-term.
