1956 MGA owned by James Martin
1956 MGA registration 186 UYG was purchased in May 2015 by Peter Litherland from an avid collector of British classic cars. It had been imported from Texas in 2013 and, like so many restoration projects, stalled and was sold.
Peter had been searching for a British sports car to prepare for the Mille Miglia. Having helped his father restore several Alvis’ he knew that restorations done properly were not for the faint hearted but was ready for the challenge!
A target date of 2016 Goodwood Revival was set and the car delivered to restoration specialists Silsoe Classic and Modern Limited for a full body off, chassis up, bare metal restoration. The brief was to create a car better than new. The stunning paint is a metallic gun metal grey with bespoke red leather interior with matching mohair hood and rebuilt engine. To say this level of finish would be more likely found on a period Aston Martin is an understatement.
The finished car was then driven to the 2016 Goodwood Revival and selected by Sir Stirling Moss to be entered into the public voted “Best in Show” where the car was runner up.
Soon after Goodwood, Peter sold the car to Ferrari specialist Joe Macari who then placed it on his website where it caught the eye of the current owner, Celebrity Chef James Martin.
Initially attracted by the colour (it matches his Ferrari 275 GTB) he was told by Joe Macari that if he saw in the flesh the level of its restoration he would not hesitate in buying it!
The engine was fully rebuilt by Joe Macari’s workshop as part of the purchase by James in February 2017 and subsequently it has been serviced by Cars International’s ex William F1 mechanics who look after all of his cars.
This stunning car is not only the result of an incredible restoration and ready for any tour but also has its own celebrity status as it is seen in the opening sequence every week of the highly successful James Martin’s Saturday Morning on ITV.
The car is UK registered and for sale at £39, 950
